The best of both worlds. A big red with bubbles.
Perhaps it's the tyranny of distance. Or maybe it's too much time in the sun. Whatever the reason there's no denying that Australians do things in their own unique way. We put beetroot on our burgers, we shut the whole country down to watch a horse race and we even put bubbles in our reds.
Treating rich red wines like champagne is a uniquely Australian practice and few do it better than our old mate Simon Adams.
This fleshy, fizzy wonder is a testament to his skills, an elevated expression of old vine Eden Valley shiraz that offers up a darkly mysterious swirl of black berries, exotic spice and dark chocolate.
If ever there was a fizz to see you through the dark depths of winter then this is it.
We could write some witty line about snuggling with Simon Adams on a chilly winter's night but we've seen the bloke and the idea sends a shiver down the spine, so we'll just leave it at this…you won’t find a better sparkling shiraz at even twice the price.
- Winemaker is Simon Adams of ex Yalumba fame - the man who created Octavius
- Fruit sourced from his Pastor Franz Lehmann vineyard in the Eden Valley (Peter Lehmann's father)
- Very limited production
- Important people like it too, it's not just us!
- Ray Jordan, Western Australian, July 2008: ‘It's a bloody fine non-vintage example with opulent fleshy ripe fruit displaying rich concentration. Ideal for Christmas in July.’
- Ken Gargett, Gourmet Traveller Wine, December/January 2009:
‘A plush dense style with hints of rum and raisin. It's full of fruit and very juicy with a soft finish, making for a lovely, great-value wine.’
- Pair it up with anything from roast turkey to pate, to chocolate cake, from brunch to afternoon tea to a post-dinner drop…just pop the cork and enjoy.
