Such A Delicious Cabernet!

If you were to travel to all four corners of the globe trying to track down the best BBQ wine for less than a ten dollar note, you might end up with some serious frequent flyer miles and a pair of buttocks perfectly fit to Economy Class chairs, but in the end, wouldn't it have just been better if you took our advice and jumped on board with this deal?

The Bottom Line

  • Big, bold, gutsy Cab Sauv - promising a super smooth finish!
  • No nonsense, no fanfare, just a super-reliable Cabernet
  • Rich and juicy with a hint of dark chocolate

Yes, it's from one of our favourite quality yet affordable wine producers. Yes, it's smooth, richly-fruited, shows fine, dusty tannins and offers lip-smacking satisfaction glass after glass. Yes, it's a perfect wine for the cooler weather with its rich, warm flavours. Yes it's the kind of wine that you'll drink a whole bottle and it will barely touch the sides, and yes, it's just that kind of gentle fruit flavour that makes BBQ foodstuffs come alive.

Best yet, it's going to set you back a couple of gold coins a bottle for this amazing wine. You could launch a spaceship to orbit the globe and the astronauts' radars won't find a better wine deal. Won't last long though - time to get some for the cellar today.

Much better than I expected for the price. What I would call a soft, flavoursome cabernet.Would hold it's own in fancier company.3.5

Budget bargain

|

Perfect BBQ or every night quaffer - not overly complex, but then again, nor am I.

Cellering potential

- |

Always looking for a bargain to add to my cellar stocks. This one fits the bill with a use by date of around 2018 which will give it 5 years to mature.

So so

|

Not a fantastic red, but for the price I really don't mind too much. Wouldn't purchase it again though.

Lyrebird Cab Sav 2013 vintage.

We like the Lyrebird Cab Sav. It goes well with any type of meal, but is particularly suited to be partaken when eating red meat. For the price ($5.42 a bottle) it is real value for money, and suitable to be drunk on its own.It has a real pleasant full fruity taste. We would give a rating of 3 out of 5 for this wine.

Having purchased a couple of times previously I must say it is outstandingvalue for my pensioner pocket being a fruity smooth drink along with a not to shabby bouquet . Thank you for offering it to me sometimelast year as an alternative to a "sold out" item

A very enjoyable wine. We are usually shiraz drinkers but really enjoyed this wine.

For that price I was surprised with this wine. Very drinkable.

Lyrebird cab sauvignon 2013 Rating 3.5

|

A full of fruit wine with peppery overtones that seems a bit too young at this point. The robust flavours though and depth suggest that some patience will be rewarded. Great value for mine.

True to tasting notes

|

This is a wine that truly comes up to the promotional 'blurb'. I was going to add that the tannins had an earthy note to them at this young age which isn't mentioned on the notes on the bottle. To his credit, your reviewer noted them as 'dusty'. With the fruit as abundantly obvious now, these tannins will ensure further maturity & a full long palate after some years in the cellar. I'm about to order a second case.

Nice at the price

|

For the price, UNBEATABLE. Nice palate, body, robust in swirls. A solid 3/5, probably 3.5 in another 2 years, which it would probably keep for. Well done, WineMarket!

Hell's Bells! I got this young puppy for $45 (with voucher) delivered and what a pleasant surprise it was. Mouth filling with lingering aftertaste. Makes wines twice the price and more cower in dark corners of the cellar. Precocious now, can't wait for the little sod to grow up.

For that price surprising wine. Usually shiraz drinker but really enjoyed this.

muzza

Lyrebird.. Last night my wife & I had 1st taste for dinner. What a disappointment 1st taste Vinegary so to be fair I let it breath for 12 minutes, hoping for an improvement. 2nd taste for both very sharp, very thin wine ! could not continue. We did not buy this wine on price, but we like to try different wines that you recommend as good value, and if you re-read your assessment you find it was going to be a great BBQ wine but not the case. So we have 11.5 bottles sitting in the box.. Maybe we were unlucky !! Grant Burge good as usual. Have a look at our record we do try a lot of the new wines.. muzza.. Rating 1

Mouth-filling with a lingering aftertaste. Streets ahead of your average quaffer and even better with a bit of airing. Precocious little brat now, wait till it grows up! Makes wines twice the price cower in dark corners. I like it heaps.3 points for the wine and one for the value. Unbeatable!

Lyrebird Cab Sav

Very soft and mellow Cab Sav and very easy drinking. Rating 4.

a real quaffer

|

This is an easy drinking, medium bodied wine that goes with everything. The flavour is rather unremarkable now, but if only I could put some aside, I suspect it will be wonderful in a few years!
