Zontes Footstep Scarlet Ladybird Rose 2014 (12 Bottles)
There's a bloke in our office who reckons it takes a real man to wear pink. We're a pretty non-judgemental bunch but he does tend to get a few funny looks from some of the visiting winemakers.
It's unusual for us to get excited about anything that's hot pink or for that matter, anything to do with ladybirds. But we'll always make an exception for a rose when it’s this good. While the colour may draw scoffs from the peanut gallery, a great rose is complex and bright, with a lightness and zest that can be lost in heftier styles.
The Bottom Line
This one from Langhorne Creek favourites Zonte's is a blend of Grenache, Cabernet and Shiraz, fermented briefly on the skins for that touch of colour and tannin. It's towards the drier end of things and though we've got it further reduced, this Ladybird is just as suited to a swanky dining room as it is to the plastic cups you keep in the back of your car.
Don't let the colour fool you; it's a quality drinker that deserves respect. And if anyone gives you any trouble about the pink, send 'em down to Sydney. We've got a bloke here in a salmon cardigan who'll sort them out for ya.
You'll love these too, have a look!
