| Background: The vineyards for Thomas Mitchell Cabernet Merlot are situated in
regions renowned for classic red wine. Some of the fruit is sourced from the Goulburn Valley and Langhorne Creek where elegantly rich flavours develop through the combination of warm days and cooler nights. Such characteristics are finely balanced with fruit sourced from vineyards in the King Valley and Padthaway regions where leaner, more restrained and savoury characters are derived. The combination of the two provide distinctly varietal aromas and flavours. |
| Colour: Bright red in colour |
| Nose: this wine displays lifted blackberry and raspberry |
| Palate: The palate is soft and smooth with generous flavours of blackcurrant and blood plums. |
| Highlights: Timely Spring rains and mild temperatures resulted in an even bud
burst combined with generous fruitfulness. The summer months were
generally dry, with two isolated (but significant) rain events – 50mm in
mid December, and 80mm in the second week of February. The
potentially threatening rains came to an abrupt halt before veraison and
the ripening period was characterised by fine, sunny, warm days. |
