Background:

The Penfolds Thomas Hyland red wines, comprising a shiraz and a cabernet sauvignon, are house style wines based on multi-regional fruit. These are fresh, early-drinking wines with abundant richness and chocolaty tannins. While Penfolds Thomas Hyland Cabernet Sauvignon is made for relatively early drinking, the overall fruit concentration and firm tannin structure will allow the wine to cellar for the medium term. The Thomas Hyland range honours the pioneering spirit of Thomas Hyland, son-in-law of Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold, whose stewardship of the company from the late 1800s until 1914 saw the development of Australia's most famous name in wine. Sourcing fruit from premium viticultural districts of South Australia known for producing varietal Cabernet fruit, this Thomas Hyland Cabernet Sauvignon offers a contemporary expression of varietal flavour and structure.

Colour:

Plum red

Nose:

Aromatic berry fruits & spices with subtle oak

Palate:

Dark fruits continue on the palate with dark cherries also covering the palate. Lovely intensity and depth of fruit flavour sits equally well with subtle oak influence and dusty Cabernet tannins creating excellent length on the back of the palate.

Highlights:

The Thomas Hyland Cabernet Sauvignon is a shining example of the benefits of multi-regional blending. Cabernet sauvignon from the southeast of South Australia, including Coonawarra, often features prominently, bringing perfume and generosity of flavour on the palate; while the addition of ripe, powerful McLaren Vale fruit and elegantly proportioned Robe cabernet enhance the overall style.

Winery Information:

Penfolds is a household name. One of the most instantly recognisable brands in the galaxy, and the wines offer reliability, quality and distinction at their price points. From the earliest winemaking days Penfolds has figured prominently and few would argue just how important Penfolds' influence on Australia's winemaking psyche has been. Without the influence of Penfolds the modern Australian wine industry would look very different indeed. Sitting comfortably outside of fad and fashion, Penfolds has taken Australian wine to the world on a grand stage and forged a reputation for quality that is without peer.

A nice spicy cab sav with lots of cherry overtones and solid tannin finish. A great winter drop to keep you warm when it's rainy outside. Yum!
