The name ‘Reiver’ is taken from the border raiders of the Anglo-Scot borders. Throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries the border country was ravaged by lawless Reiver families in a vicious cycle of raid, reprisal and blood feud. For Frank Mitolo this name represents his decision to move outside McLaren Vale and ‘raid’ the ‘border’ of the Barossa Valley in a bid to source some of their finest fruit, with the intension of creating a quintessential Barossa Valley Shiraz.

Winery Information
Fruit for Reiver comes from a single vineyard site near Greenock, in the northern stretch of the Barossa Valley. The climate here is classified as continental, with warm to hot days and cool nights. The vineyard soils are free draining loam over ironstone, and the average vine age is around sixty years.

"Stunning Barossa Shiraz"

Having finished all my stocks of the famed 2007 Reiver, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this young one. And whilst my preference is to let it age for another 5-10 years, I doubt very much it's going to last in my cellar that long. It is spicy and complex, and with some breathing becomes even smoother and almost calming. I just love it, will find cellaring it so so difficult.
