| Background |
Cloudy Bay Vineyards was established in 1985 by David Hohnen - who was also behind the inception of Cape Mentelle Vineyards in Western Australia. David was inspired to develop a winery in the Marlborough region after tasting an early example of its vibrant Sauvignon Blanc; he was confident that the 'quality' surface had barely been scratched. |
|
| Colour |
Pale straw green in colour and enticingly fragrant. |
|
| Nose |
Lifted aromas of ripe stonefruit and juicy citrus with underlying notes of blackcurrant leaf and tomato plant spice. |
|
| Palate |
The palate is fine yet succulent, with zesty citrus flavours and fresh acidity that leads into a lingering and characteristically crisp finish. |
|
| Highlights |
"There are lots of Sauvignon Blancs but there is only one Cloudy Bay - and there's a reason for that. However much you complain about pricing and marketing hype, New Zealand's finest from the Marlborough region is the Premiership champion of dry whites. Again it's balanced but also bursting with superb citrus flavours and unpretentiously carries a screw top for convenience." Nick Nunn - Lancashire Telegraph UK 19th December 2007 |

| Winery Information |
Located at the northern end of New Zealand's South Island at latitude 41°30'S, the flood plain of the Wairau River covers a land area of 170 square kilometres. It is 14km wide at its eastern end where it meets the coast at Cloudy Bay, tapering to only a few kilometres at its inland extremity, 26km from the sea. The northern boundary is graphically bordered by the Richmond Ranges whose main peak, Mount Riley, features on the Cloudy Bay label. |
