| Background: Stonewell Shiraz has over the years been accorded the highest place in the echelons of Barossa Shiraz. 2001 Stonewell is the 15th of its line, and continues the great tradition of Barossa Shiraz at its finest. Stonewell is made from the very best of the superlative Barossa Shiraz vineyards available to Peter Lehmann. The grapes are drawn only from low-yielding vineyards in the drier western areas of the Barossa Valley. These vineyards, some planted well over 100 years ago, produce sparse bunches with tiny berries small black jewels the secret of Stonewell Shiraz. |
| Colour: Wonderful depth of colour with the first hints of maturity at the rim. |
| Nose: A complex bouquet of black fruits, dark chocolate dusted prunes, liquorice, and vanillan oak characters. |

| Highlights: The Stonewell Shiraz is Peter Lehmann's best Shiraz of each vintage released as a five year old wine. Maturation releases are rare these days, in particular one of this quality. This wine is a celebration of Australian Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. |
| Winery Information: Peter Lehmann is regarded by many as the Baron of the Barossa valley, a title he richly deserves. He learnt his skill initially at Yalumba, then with Saltram prior to establishing his own label in 1979. 15 years later, after establishing the Peter Lehmann brand, Peter is still producing the very best ports in the Barossa. The winery was originally called Masterson, after the gambler Bat Masterson from the Damon Runyon classics of the American Midwest. Doug Lehmann has
now joined his father after 15 years at Basedows. The winery has a total focus on Barossa and all its history. Once part of M. S. McLeod conglomerate, now listed and controlled by Australian shareholders. |
