| Colour |
Deep, dark and impenetrable |
|
| Nose |
A rich mix of dark chocolate infused with coffee bean and black liquorice, then scents of tar, aniseed, raw (pure) soy and black olive. Is it oak, or a hybrid, barrel ferment character that can be captured as it oscillates in and out of this beguiling aromatic offering? |
|
| Palate |
A rich, full-flavoured and concentrated wine with complex rum/raisin dark chocolate, liquorice, quince paste and dried fruit notes. Prominent, well integrated tannins align with oak (all but soaked up by the fruits) to create a lingering continuum of flavours and tactile presistence. Beautifully balanced, this 100% Barossa wine
delivers the expectations demanded of a Grange from this vintage. |
|
| Highlights |
Grange is an icon, being both Australia's and Penfolds flagship wine. Grange boasts and unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951 and clearly demonstrates the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and climate of south Australia. |

| Winery Information |
Penfolds, the first name that comes to mind when you think about Australian wine, was founded by a young English doctor who migrated to one of his country's most distant colonies a century and a half ago. With their home in South Australia, Penfolds is one of the largest and most prominent Australian wine producers. The makers of Grange Hermitage (Shiraz), led by the late and inimitable Max Schubert, the winemaking team is now spearheaded by 1991 Wine Magazines Red Winemaker of the Year, John Duval. |
