Super boutique, hand picked, from the Adelaide hills

Sometimes WineMarket gets one step ahead of the game. We couldn’t tell you what hair product Michael Clarke will upgrade to as the new captain of Australian cricket, but we know a thing or two about great wines.

We’ve sniffed out a stunner for our latest mystery wine. More so the winemaker is a stunning Bulgarian girl; we reckon she’s hotter than a roast chook in hell.

Mind you, her winemaking partner in crime is punching above his weight, but so too this premium, super boutique Pinot Noir.

It’s made from hand picked Adelaide Hills fruit, lovingly tended in the winery and brought to life in an attractive bottle with a chic label. Shhh, less than 500 cases were made and we’ve dug deep to source some for you.

The wine is fuller bodied than expected for an Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir — black cherry, red berries and lifted spice meet a fleshy palate with loads of dark fruit flavour, supple yet feathery tannins and a long, juicy finish. Pretty stuff. Like the Bulgarian winemaker. Did we mention her?

Anyways, the wine normally retails at around $45 a bottle, but the Bulgarian babe and her lucky husband have done us a favour, made the price ludicrously friendly, just to introduce you to their stunning wine. It’s set to get top notch reviews from the big wine writer crew too, so jump on board quickly. The wine, that is.

Name  MYSTERY ADELAIDE HILLS PINOT NOIR 10 (12)
Vintage  2010
Alcohol  13%
Drink now until  2018
Regions  Adelaide Hills
Winemaker  ELENA BROOKS
Oak  French
Varieties  Pinot Noir
Foods  Roasted lamb or duck breast with the all trimmings
Background  It's extraordinary that this wine isn't twice the price considering the luxury treatment it receives: hand tended vines, sorted bunch by bunch, naturally open fermented, basket pressed and stored in well seasoned first-use French oak barriques from bespoke coopers
Colour  Bright red with impressive clarity
Nose  Black cherry and red berries plus plum fruits
Palate  Sweet fruit on the nose (think cherries, raspberries and plums) but with a delicious savoury, spicy note which Halliday reckons will develop further complexity as it ages. Fantastic use of oak. Like the 2009, this Pinot Noir is a real nod to Burgundy.
Highlights  An extraordinary Pinot Noir from the Adelaide Hills that will cellar well but it is so deliciously perfect now.
Winery Information  ???? was conceived in vintage 2000, when a young winemaking student caught the eye of a silly old wine judge. A love story ensued inspired by two vows: To preserve the best of tradition, the old world of wine and our unique old vineyards and to champion the best clones of each variety planted in the most appropriate sites embracing the principals of organic and biodynamic farming.
