The big boy. The boss hog. The godfather.
Grange is a true special occasion wine that still sits on top of all others produced in Australia. Incredible craftsmanship, selected parcels of fruit, high quality oak and the ultimate in historical legacy, Grange exemplifies the premium wine range of Australia. Bold in flavor, deeply etched with concentrated fruit, tannin and oak complexity – this is a wine that not only drinks superbly with maturity, but shows immense cellaring potential.
And regal as it may be every year, the 2006 is a step up once again. A near perfect growing season has begat a wine of incredible detail – layers and layers of finessed flavor comprise a wine that in its youth is showing coiled, tautly wound structure with the understanding that it will last a generation; we’re talking 30 plus years at least.

Grange 2006
Penfolds Grange is arguably Australia's most famous wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Grange boasts an
unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951 and clearly
demonstrates the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and
climates of South Australia.
Penfolds Grange displays fully-ripe, intensely-flavoured and
textured Shiraz grapes in combination with new American oak.
The result is a unique Australian style that is now recognised as
one of the most consistent of the world's great wines. The Grange
style is the original and most powerful expression of Penfolds
multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy.

| Highlights |
It’s not a massive release but the ropes of flavour-drenched tannin on the finish pull it on and on. This precision engineering through the finish marks its intense quality. It tastes of blackberry and aniseed, nutmeg and smoky vanilla. It’s quite delicious, and yet there’s no question that it’s powerfully wrought. It’s not a particularly heralded vintage, in general terms, but the way this release presents in the glass is, to me, what Grange is all about. Impeccable winemaking, pure fruit, clasps of uncompromising tannin, smokin’ barrels, and thrust. It will live for a very long time, because it’s so well designed, and because it does its thing so well. Rated : 97 Points Drink : 2020 - 2040 By Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front |
