Go hard on great chard!
Phil Sexton is quite possibly the cleverest bloke we've come across in the wine game, a bit of a mad professor with a brain that never seems to stand still.
And of all the things that have benefited from a sprinkling of Sexton magic – and that's a long list that includes beer, bread, coffee and Australia's best cellar door – nothing seems to respond better to his magic touch than chardonnay.
From the early Margaret River days at Devil's Lair to his great Yarra Valley label Innocent Bystander, Sexton knows chardonnay like a one-armed boxer knows a punch in the head.
It's clear as a bell in this brilliant 2009 Innocent Bystander chardonnay. This is the second label from Sexton's Victorian operations, all the quality at half the price. Actually we've got it at an even better price – probably because we've said so many nice things about Phil. You just won't find chardonnay this good at $99 a case… trust us we've tried.
The wine…
Poised and tight, citrus and fine toasty characters, beautiful freshness and length.
- 5 STAR James Halliday rated winery based in the Yarra Valley (Innocent Bystander)
- From a team of award winning winemakers: Phil Sexton, Steve Flamesteed, Dave Mackintosh
- A top-notch Victorian Chardonnay which is sure to please
- Victoria produces some classic Chardonnays and this is no exception
- Who says you have to drink red wine in winter… drink this with creamy, saucy pasta and you'll be plenty warm & cosy
- Want more Innocent Bystander? Check out their great McLaren Vale Shiraz.

| Background |
Located in Healesville in the heart of the Yarra Valley, is where the Giant Steps and Innocent Bystander Winery meets the world. Our wines are made onsite and one can experience all the sights and excitement of our gravity flow system, fermenting tanks, and barrel hall under the watchful eye of Phil Sexton who runs the show from upstairs.
It’s also where we live our gastronomic philosophy: great wine needs great food. That’s why we have our own bistro with wood-fired pizzeria, artisan bakery, cheese room and provedore. We also roast our own coffee beans, have a range of excellent beers and a guest wine list comprising of other producers we admire from the Yarra Valley and abroad. Tastings are available everyday between 10am and 6pm, with Winery Tours at 11am and 3pm.
(Sounds kind of like a grown-up playground, right?)
One can try our wines in their natural environment at our Cellar Door. Two labels with distinct, charismatic personalities. And if you can’t get along to the winery to meet them, snaffle a case of this wine and do it from the comfort of your own home. |

What's Innocent Bystander all about? Here's what they say..
"In the seconds before death, your life is supposed to flash before your eyes. The last photo album of an innocent bystander.
Some of us will be here for a long time. Others for just a good time.
Like our wines. We've spent our lives striving to grow and make great wines.
Still working at it.
Meanwhile, what really counts?
A great impression...fond memories...was it fun?
We hope, that like the bystander, these wines tread gently, judge nobody and most of all,
leave a lasting impression.
Our wines are made to drink.
Want (or should we say need) some?" |
