Back when WineMarket was just a twinkle in a twinkle of a twinkle in our parent’s eyes, some of the great Champagne houses of France we’re happily fermenting away, getting fine fizz organized for all of our festive occasions.
Piper Heidsieck is one of the oldest Champagne houses that still produces wines, and was founded back in 1785 – the same year that Napoleon became a lieutenant and also marks the year of the world’s first aviation disaster after a hot air balloon crashed. Meanwhile, the good folk at Heidsieck Champagne house we’re busy kicking off their fledgling wine business.
The original boss of Heidsieck, Florens-Louis Heidsieck, died in 1828 and left the Champagne business to his nephew Christian Heidsieck and his cousin Henri Guilaume Piper. The Heidsieck name was combined with the Piper name in 1839. They happily made fine Champagne for the next 150 years before hooking up with Remy Cointreau wine and spirits group who now look after their interests. They are known as one of the best-loved and most prestigious big house Champagne brands and offer immense quality across their range.
Sourcing fruit from around 60 vineyards in Champagne makes Piper Heidsieck’s job of producing fine wines pretty easy – they get to pick and choose the best gear to go into all their cuvees. The range consists of their very approachable, fresh and fruit driven Cuvee Brut NV, a classic blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. All their wines don’t go through malolactic fermentation and are lower in dosage -this means they offer a greater purity of fruit and dryness than many commercial brands.
Their distinctive red label NV might be the most popular wine that Piper Heidsieck producer but don’t discount the quality of their Rose Sauvage NV, Cuvee Sublime (demi-sec), Brut Divin Blanc de Blanc, their vintage Champagne produced only in excellent years and their prestige cuvee wine ‘Cuvee Rare’. Something for everyone. No doubt.

The very first impressions are of Bright fresh Mornings. It is reminiscent of spring blossom such as Hawthorn. They lead into more fruity notes such as summer apples + pear, then citrus with hints of warm toastiness. |

| Palate |
The first impression is lively and fresh. The citrus notes take on a certain maturity. There is passion with gentleness, lightness with spontaneity. |
