When we first saw Peter Lehmann’s Layers Red at WineMarket we thought it had something to do with chickens and eggs.
Little did we know. Must be all the good wine in the office; or something like that. What layers is actually all about is the layers of flavour in the wine. It’s made of five red grape varieties, that all end up meshing together to make a beautiful drinking red of youthful complexity. Yum yum.
And while we like a chook’s egg as much as the next person, we know that that’s probably not the best thing to match with this wine. Instead, we’ve opted for BBQ gear like steaks and snags and chops.
This is a wine that our mate from the Barossa, Peter Lehmann, the 5-star Halliday supremo, takes great pride in making. There was a little extra left for us to take so he’s rushed it to us at a special deal.
So don’t go missing out on this outstanding wine. You’d be a few eggs short of a basket if you do.

| Winery Information |
Peter Lehmann is a 5-Star Halliday rated winery run by who many regard as the Baron of the Barossa valley, a title he richly deserves. He learnt his skill initially at Yalumba, then with Saltram prior to establishing his own label in 1979. 15 years later, after establishing his own brand, the Baron is still producing the very best ports in the Barossa. The winery has a total focus on Barossa and all its history. Peter Lehmann won the International Wine & Spirit Competition in both 2003 and 2006.
Peter Lehmann has long believed the Barossa to be a winemaker’s paradise. One small region capable of producing
outstanding quality wines made from a wide array of both traditional grape varieties grown in the Barossa and also many
of the new and exciting varietals that have been planted here over the last few decades.
When once asked why the Barossa could make so many different wines, Peter Lehmann replied, “Because we can!” –
testament to his belief that the Barossa is the best place in Australia to make wine.
We have blended three classic Barossa red varieties with two new and exciting varietals to illustrate our belief that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Don’t be fooled by it’s easy drinking and approachable nature, as each taste reveals another layer of subtle complexity. |
