Follow the Riverpath to flavour town
In some circles it’s considered clever to bag Kiwi savvy blanc – and by some circles we mean the Winemarket office – but the all the smartarsery and all the riesling in the world doesn’t change the fact that when it comes to delivering full-throttle flavour and some real vinous thrills the racy savvy’s of Marlborough are pretty hard to beat.
With popularity comes proliferation and there’s a bloody great gooseberry-scented ocean of the stuff out there and it stands to reason that not all of it is as good as it could be.
That’s why we work harder in selecting the Marlborough sauvignon we sell than any other wine style in our inventory.
We look at hundreds of them and take only those wines that have some genuine excitement and class, wines that have even savvy sceptics like us asking for a second glass.
This is one of the best we’ve seen in ages, a real thrill a minute job that delivers a big blast of savvy flavour and finishes amazingly clean and fresh.
We reckon it’s probably worth twice as much as the staggeringly cheap price you’re getting it for today.
You’ll be glad you wandered down this path.

| Background |
The grapes for this wine were specifically selected from our vineyard situated where the Waihopai & Wairau Rivers meet. The adjoining land is now a terrace upon which the rivers’ path once sculptured the land. - ARA Wines
The complex alluvial soils where our vineyard now lies, deliver a fully flavoured Sauvignon Blanc with lively aromas of citrus and tropical fruit with a refined and elegant finish. |
|
|
|
| Nose |
Bright lively nose, accentuated aromatics of citrus and tropical fruit; balanced with elegance and texture. |
|
| Palate |
The different parcels were fermented separately with long slow cool ferments of approximately 20 days. The wine was aged on yeast lees for about 4 months prior to racking, blending and fining, then bottled in October 2010. |
|
| Highlights |
The backbone of this Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is composed of fruit with restrained mineral and stonefruit characters typical of close planted, low yielding vines.
The aromatics are accentuated by fruit from more vigorous, leafy vineyard parcels that show the classical Marlborough pungency. Early and later picks of the blend components also contributed to the contrast of herbaceous ripeness. |

| Winery Information |
The name ARA (pronounced ‘are-ah’) is both the indigenous Maori word for “pathway” and Latin for “altar”. Both definitions are compatible with our philosophy.
ARA captures our adventurous spirit; it also echoes our deep respect for tradition and our environment.
Made with grapes from one place, ARA single estate wine aims to deliver more surprise, more excitement and more enjoyment. Fusing the time-honoured art of winemaking with fresh ideas, we amplify and refine the natural qualities of our remarkable Wairau Valley location. The result is a strikingly different Marlborough, New Zealand experience. |
