Italian Soul, McLaren Vale Heart

Halliday reckons it’ll cellar to 2030 – that might be ambitious but it’s testament to the kind of quality we’re looking at here.

That’s exactly what our buyers thought – so they took the lot. Get in!

The Bottom Line

  • Traditionally styled Prim from the heart of the “Vale”
  • 95 Points – James Halliday
  • Only 300 cases ever made!

From the source:

The Twist story revolves around the Hazel Tree. Early European Vignerons would bind their grape vines to stakes or trellis with a “TWIST” of flexible hazel twig. Although modern day trellis systems have moved forward from this we cherish the early ties between the Hazel twig and grapevines.

Tasting Notes

McLaren Vale
Other Red Varieties
Deep ruby/purple
Suited to your favourite game meat dish or a winter evening by the fire.
Very inviting nose of Christmas cake, plums and blackcurrants. Integrated spice with a touch of vanilla bean and raspberry. Brilliant intensity with power, balanced fruit and spice.
Full bodied, great fleshy plum fruit with a touch of sun drenched slate. Trueness of fruit on the palate with a great chocolate mid palate and mocha finish intertwined with subtle wood spice and sage. Lively acidity and strong yet slightly chalky tannins are balanced and integrated.
95 Points - James Halliday
Winery Information
Selected from a single vineyard just to the east of Aldinga. The vineyard is on Red to grey mottled clay with North South row orientation. It is naturally lower cropping for Primitivo due to the coastal winds and produces dark brooding fruits with velvelty tannins and exceptional length

"Grown Up Red"

Vintage: 2013

A full flavoured red, but without massive fruit on the palette. Herbs and fine tannins make this an interesting and distinctive wine - a change from the orthodox big Aussie red.
