Grant Burge Batch 27 Cabernet Shiraz 2012 Dozen

In stock

A thoroughbred deal…

When our mate Grant Burge comes to us with a deal, he isn't cracking the bullwhips and riding a horse like some of the wine industry cowboys, he's offering us some of his wines because we love to drink them and know that you will too.

Here, Burge has saddled up a sensational offer — an export order destined for fancy overseas bottle shops has come back due to our strong Aussie dollar, and we're helping him move the wine on.

Batch 27 is a deeply flavoured blend of Cabernet and Shiraz - it's a supple textured, rich and gently spicy wine that shows the gentle leafiness of Cabernet grapes with the concentration and dark fruit flavours of shiraz. Add a pizza, some grilled chops or some roast vegies for some fun.

So don't delay on this thoroughbred deal. At just $92 a case and with limited stocks we reckon it will race out the door at a gallop. Crack the riding crop, lasso some of this wine, and we'll get this deal bolting out to you. Yeehaa.

The Bottom Line:

  • New vintage Cabernet Shiraz at just 7.67 a bottle
  • 5 star James Halliday rated winery
  • Cellar must-have for everyday drinking
  • The classic Australian pioneered blend from Mr Burge

Name:

Grant Burge Batch 27 Cabernet Shiraz 2012

Vintage:

2012

Alcohol:

13.5%

Drink Until:

2014

Regions:

South Australia

Winemaker:

Grant Burge

Oak:

Clever use of oak to add spice to the wine.

Varieties:

Cabernet Shiraz

Food:

Rich, meaty pasta or grilled lamb

Background:

This wine has been labelled for the European market. The deal has fallen through, which means that you get a quality wine for a lot less. It's the same fruit, winery you've come to know and love from Grant Burge! The Batch series of wines emulate the flavours and characters of South Australia’s most recognised wine growing regions. Special parcels of fruit are selected to produce wines that are fresh, fruit driven, well balanced and ready for you to enjoy.

Colour:

Medium Ruby

Nose:

Dark, black fruits, blackcurrant, black cherry with the pungent pepper spice from the Shiraz

Palate:

Dry, medium bodied, blackcurrant and mint from the Cabernet while the Shiraz adds softness, depth of flavour.

Highlights:

The Cabernet Shiraz blend is unique to Australia, like our friends in Bordeaux, France do with Merlot, we discovered that when one adds Shiraz to Cabernet to resulting wine is softened, has added body, a new dimension of aroma and flavour and is more approachable at an earlier stage of it's life. The blend has become famous in it's own right and now some of our best wines are made up of these wonderful grape varieties.

Winery Information:

Grant Burge is located in the heart of the Barossa Valley in South Australia. Family owned (and proud of it), Grant Burge was formed in 1988 by fifth generation vigneron and winemaker. The Burge family has been in the Barossa since 1855, and Grant continues on the family tradition whilst bringing his winemaking techniques into the 21st century.

Grant Burge batch 27 Cabernet Shiraz

by iamIis - verified purchaser
The wine has a good bouquet with reasonable colour. Plum and blackbery flavours on the palate with sufficient tannin. Not a great wine but a good wine. This wine will not disappoint .

Grant Burge Batch 27 Cabernet Shiraz 2012

by Hal - verified purchaser
I found this wine to be a good quality Cabernet Shiraz and I think a little better than the pure Shiraz. Some Shiraz is often harsher on the palate, although not all but the addition of Cabernet seems to provide a slightly smoother taste.I would recommend this wine to others.
