Not a bad drop for the price. In this hot weather, I have it chilled, and in a wine glass full of ice, That way I stay hydrated !

"Easy drinking everyday red"

Vintage: 2015

by
My 3 star rating on this wine is based within its category. It does not display some of the spicy notes and plumy flavours of a well developed example of this variety however it is an easy drinking everyday wine that is reasonable value. It is fairly light and I find nothing offensive about it. If you like big bold reds this is not for you but if you want a light mid week quaffer to have with pizza then this is a respectable choice

I have always been a fan of Merlot, but the Deakin Estate Vine Series is seriously delicious and a great unwind for the end of the week- for the price, an excellent buy and value for money.

"Great value"

Bought this wine on a whim because it was on special and I like Merlot.

It's light and fruity for a Merlot but by no means unpleasant.

You won't impress any pretentious wine buffs but it's an ideal easy going, any time wine.

For this price it's great!!!

A good pickup. At the price, this merlot is at the upper end of the scale.

Easy on the palette and great with a spag bog or lamb chops etc.

Be on the lookout for more when it comes up for sale again!

Very smooth wine, but not much body to it. Also not a lot of finish. But ok for an everyday drinking wine.

The first time I tasted Deakin Merlot I was smitten! It is a smooth, tasty Merlot that titillates the tongue. It is now one our favourite reds and to buy it by the case was a Godsend!

Opened a bottle of Deakin Estate Merlot 2013 last night but not sure - not terrible but not one of the ones I have enjoyed from the first sip. Will leave it in the cupboard for a while and try again with this one.

"A more flavoursome Merlot, but needs to breathe or have longer cellaring"

Vintage: 2013

by

I have bought a wide range of Merlots from this site and I believe this is one of the best in the mid-low price range. When first opened and even after 20 minutes breathing, the tannins were quite obvious, but a noticeable flavour of ripe fruit, spicy oak and dark chocolate were coming through. The wine is light- medium bodied as you would expect from a Merlot, so no surprises there. However, leave the wine to breathe for 45 minutes and it changes character significantly where the tannins fall in intensity and become smoother so the round and lingering mouthfeel, as mentioned in the tasting notes, can be appreciated.

I agree this wine would benefit from another couple of years of cellaring and that is my plan. But, if you are feeling thirsty in the meantime, then just open it up 45 to 60 minutes before you plan to drink it. You will be pleased that you did!
