Biscay Road Mclaren Vale Shiraz 2014 (12 Bottles)
McLaren Vale Masters Back Once More!
It’s back. We were told this day would never come. But Biscay Road is out of retirement and this time we haven’t taken any chances: we bought every single bottle of the 2014 vintage.
This is one of WineMarket’s founding pillars: between constant repurchases from infatuated customers and personal office visits from winery head honcho Frank Mitolo, the Biscay Road holds a special place in the heart (liver?) of anyone who’s been around these parts for a while.
Tragically discontinued, now thankfully reborn, here’s our long-time favourite McLaren Vale Shiraz. If you haven’t tried it yet: welcome. If you have, welcome back.
The Bottom Line
- Our most popular Shiraz label, EVER!
- McLaren Vale Shiraz to a ‘T’
- From long-time WM good guy Frank Mitolo
- Last vintage sold out three times over.. no kidding
- Labelled 'Biscay Road' but it’s 100% Mitolo and 100% superb
- Let it sit in your cellar for a good few years if you want!
- Basket pressed Shiraz - deeply detailed and richly weighted fruit, powerful yet balanced, robust yet refined
If we could erect a big bronze statue of Frank Mitoloin our office we would. We might even go so far as to put some flowers and candles at his feet, burn a bit of incense, and make a bit of a shrine.
A little weird sure, but that’s just how much we love this bloke.
Why? Because he makes a wine as good as this just for us.
That’s right, here and only here, is the place you can get this wine that has all the hallmarks of this powerhouse of McLaren Vale - deeply detailed and richly weighted fruit, powerful yet balanced, robust yet refined.
This is A-grade stuff from a team at the top of their game and quite possibly the most popular wine on the site.
We really thought we’d seen the end of this long-time favourite with the 2011, but here we go again!
If you've had it before you know you want more.
If you haven’t, you owe it to yourself to see what the fuss is all about.
The vines sit in loam over sandstone, intermixed with heavy Biscay clay, which gives the wine powerful fruit flavours. The combination of cool sea breezes and gully winds provide ideal conditions for growing fruit of intensity and balance.
Aged in 100% French Oak, fermented on skins and both barrel and malolactic fermentation delivers a rich and fragrant Shiraz with a generous mid palate.
Frank Mitolo's inspiration was an early interest and enthusiasm for good food and great wine. With three earlier generations of his family working as agriculturists and entrepreneurs, it is not surprising that (whilst heading an international horticultural business), Frank found the energy and passion to pursue his dream of creating world-class wines.
You'll love these too, have a look!
